Day 11 - Road Trip 2011

We few month prior we had went to vegas,  yet I wasn't able to find the time to get down to the welcome sign,  so a special trip was in order.  This is early A.M. and people were everywhere, and no one seemed to be able to get organized to take turns snaping pictures.  Well, we didn't have time for all that, so I ran up in between them all, and had George snap a pic,  time to roll on.

 Hoover Dam
We took the power plant tour
 Pretty neat
See the bridge ?  That is a fairly new addition.  I had zero plans on crossing over that thing.  My plan was simple, go to dam, ride over dam and out the other side, avoiding that there bridge.  Georges' GPS is outdated, therefore he didn't have the new road.  So he is riding away, and somehow missed the sign that said exit now for hoover dam.  I almost took the exit, figuring he would have to turn around anyway and we'd meet up at the dam.  But I didn't,  I said, i'm not leaving my wing man....    I also thought there might be another exit to take before this god awful bridge.  There wasn't.   So over the bridge I go, to find out, you have to go back across the bridge to get to the damn dam.  Jeez......So we do the tour take pics etc etc.... Go to leave, figuring we could just go the old way.......Not a chance in hell as they have closed this road.  So for a 3rd time,  back over this ridiculous bridge.
Good news tho, heading for the bridge for a 3rd time, I look up and see the big horn sheep.  Well worth it, and i have better pics somewhere........

Of course we hit Route 66
Taking a break after getting my kicks on route 66
Heading for the Grandest Canyon of them all........  it was a let down i tell ya.......

Day 10 - Road Trip 2011

I would ask you to quess this movie location, but I havn't had any luck with that in the past.  My pose should give it away.  If your stuck,  think Karate Kid.  This is the apartment complex they moved too.

Top of stairs door on left.  Apartment 20.   It's now gated and you can't get inside as it still is used today.
Mr. Miyagi work shop was built in two of the parking spaces, just for the movie.  It's gone now.
This is Ali's House in the movie
 Hollywood Baby!

Griffith Observatory has been in several movies, but I am here because it was the setting for most of the movie, Rebel without a Cause Starring James Dean.
They even put up a memorial of James Dean
The location of the famous Knife fight
Me at the knife fight location
The gripping final death scene in the movie "rebel without a cause"

The Ronald Regan Library

I'm ready to be the voice of the people
 Replica Oval Office

This is the Air Force one Regan used, also used by several other presidents.  No picture allowed inside the plane for security reasons.  They even had the "football"  the nucular war codes

 President Regans Grave....  sobering
Enter: Death Valley...  I watched the temps go from 68 to 88 while riding into the park.
We would stay in Beatty, NV this night........don't ever do that.....keep pushing forward.

Day 9 - Road Trip 2011

Day 9 First thing we come to the Golden Gate Bridge...  Fog...yea i know, anyway, we weren't stickin around for the fog to burn off.  We are here to ride, and ride off we did.
Alcatraz Island, we tried the night before to buy our tickets, but were already sold out.  This was a major blow as we had really wanted to make the visit.
Twin Peaks in San Fran.   Suppose to be a awesome vista out over the city,  but again,  FOG....
Wyatt Earp's Grave.......  downtown San Fran.

George taking a break as we plot our next move.
Of course I had to stick my feet in the pacific.

The long hike up the stairs.
Who picked this as the spot to dip our feet ?

Although this gas station has under went many improvements and rebuilds, the still claim it as the last gas stop that James Dean made before he died.
 James Dean Memorial
This is the James Dean Crash Site, and the last photo taken of Dean.
Where Deans Car came to rest that day.

The intersection where Dean was killed is now the James Dean Memorial Junction.
